How to Create a Facebook Business Page

Why a Facebook Business Page Matters for Your Local Business

A Facebook Business Page is one of the most valuable (and free) tools available to a local business. Here's why it's worth getting right.

Visibility where your customers already are

With over 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook remains one of the most widely used platforms in the UK. A Business Page puts you in front of local customers who are actively searching for services like yours, browsing recommendations in local community groups, or simply discovering businesses through their feed.

Credibility and trust

A properly set up Business Page signals professionalism. Customers can see your contact details, opening hours, reviews, and photos all in one place — making it easy for them to choose you over a competitor with no online presence.

Direct customer engagement

Your page lets customers message you directly, leave reviews, ask questions, and engage with your posts. This two-way communication builds relationships and keeps your business front of mind.

Supports your local SEO

This is where a Facebook Business Page goes beyond social media. Search engines like Google factor in your wider online presence when deciding how to rank your business locally. A well-optimised Business Page — with a consistent business name, address, and phone number (known as NAP) that matches your website and Google Business Profile — acts as a citation signal that reinforces your legitimacy to search engines. Your page can also appear directly in Google search results, giving you an additional listing on page one. Regular posts and strong review activity on Facebook further demonstrate to search engines that your business is active and trusted in your local area.

Reviews and reputation

Facebook reviews are increasingly visible in search results, and potential customers take them seriously. Encouraging happy clients to leave a Facebook review alongside their Google review builds a broader base of social proof that supports both your reputation and your local rankings.

Before you start

You'll need an existing personal Facebook account - your Business Page is created through it, but will be separate and publicly visible as your business.

Right, let’s go…

Step 1: Go to Page Creation

  • Log into your personal Facebook account

  • Click the menu (grid icon) in the top-right corner

  • Select "Pages" from the left-hand menu

  • Click the blue "Create new Page" button

Step 2: Enter Your Business Details

  • Page name — your business name as customers would search for it

  • Category — start typing your industry (e.g. "Builder", "Accountant", "Restaurant") and select the best match

  • Description — a brief sentence about what you do and where you're based

  • Click "Create Page"

Step 3: Add Your Key Information

Once the page is created, make sure you complete:

  • Profile photo — your logo or a professional headshot

  • Cover photo — a banner image representing your business

  • Contact details — phone number, email, website

  • Address — important for local search visibility

  • Opening hours

  • "About" section — a fuller description of your business

Step 4: Publish and Share

  • Your page is live as soon as it's created

  • Invite your personal Facebook friends to like the page

  • Share the page link with customers and add it to your website and email signature

Important Note

You can't convert your existing personal profile into a Business Page - Facebook removed that option. Your new Business Page will sit alongside your personal profile, and you can switch between them using the account switcher in the top-right corner.

Once your Business Page is live, it's worth getting it properly optimised - a consistent name, address and phone number, a keyword-rich description, and regular posts will all help with your local visibility.
